Principles
The following principles prioritize risk and implement cost-effective management practices. CPPI members are committed to these Guiding Principles:
- Safety, health and environment must be considered in business planning, facilities and product design, operating practices, and training programs.
- Plants and facilities must operate in a manner that protects the environment, and the safety and health of employees, neighbours, customers and the public. This includes the handling of raw materials, products and waste.
- Emergency preparedness capability must be in place and integrated with community awareness programs and emergency response plans.
- Recognize and respond to community concerns about raw materials, products and operations.
- Counsel customers, transporters and others in the use, transportation and disposal of raw materials, products and waste.
- Operations must be energy efficient.
- Conduct and support research on the safety, health and environmental effects of raw materials, products, processes and waste materials.
- Increase environmental, health and safety performance by improving management systems.
- Maintain management systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Work with governments and interest groups in creating responsible standards, laws and regulations to safeguard communities, workplaces and the environment.
- Share experiences and offer assistance to others who produce, handle, use, transport or dispose of similar raw materials, petroleum products and wastes.
