Climate change is an issue concerning Canadians and the entire world. Canada’s petroleum products refining industry shares this concern, and has committed to improving industry environmental standings.

Refineries reduced CO₂ emissions by implementing energy efficient refining processes and general energy efficient practices throughout the facilities. Canada is home to one of the world’s most efficient refining industries, processing 2.2 million barrels every day.

Our industry has taken wide-ranging measures to:

• Recover residual energy
• Reduce atmospheric emissions of nitrogen oxide through the use of cleaner burners
• Implement flare-gas recovery projects
• Focus increasingly on energy and operational reliability issues
